As a Seattle native, Fleet Foxes has been on my radar for quite some time and I was ecstatic when they started receiving the recognition they deserved this past year. Tiger Mountain Peasant Song and White Winter Hymnal are two tracks off of their self-titled 2008 release that I cannot get enough of, and apparently I’m not the only one who feels this way! To my surprise, there were tons of great covers on YouTube by some very talented musicians.
The first cover was done by willsturgeonmusic and features the same sort of stairwell-acoustics sound that we enjoyed from the UCLA boys who covered Bruises a few posts back. I thought this particular version of White Winter Hymnal was absolutely beautiful and I liked that they didn’t just copy the exact sound of the original and took creative license with their harmonies.
Another cover of White Winter Hymnal done by ChrisDodgen was definitely creative and incredibly entertaining! When I originally clicked on the link to this video, I actually thought it was three different people and was pleasantly surprised to see that it is in fact just one very talented and creative individual.
Lastly, jagadambarecords are two wonderful Swedes who played a beautiful cover of Tiger Mountain Peasant Song. Not only is their rendition of this song pleasant to listen to, the setting of the video in what looks like a forest gives a very peaceful and simplistic feeling.
