Bonus! I’ve got two covered songs and, not two, not three, but FOUR videos for you today. Now, you might think that it’s going to be difficult to cover the Beatles, one of the most popular bands of all time. I’m not going to make any claims that these are better than the originals, but rather, as covers go, they are different. So instead of jibber-jabber, let’s just get down to it.
I know you’re sitting at home, fingers crossed, saying “please don’t let this post be about the Jonas Brothers!!” Well, first, that of course would defeat our goal of featuring amateur covers, and second, just turn on the TV if you want to hear a pop band covering the Beatles on a target commercial.
You’re in luck! This first video is Hello Goodbye from a youtuber called ClattyBrown. I think this is quite a step away from the original. When the Beatles play this song, it sounds so upbeat and happy, it just makes me want to get up and do a happy dance. However, ClattyBrown’s version is much more somber, relaxed, and peaceful. Maybe it’s the fact that he’s playing it out in an open field somewhere on a beautiful summer day. Anyway, it’s quite different, so have a look here.
Next, I really like the song Eleanor Rigby, because it sounds so depressing and creepy, and yet at the same time, it has a fast, rhythmic, and pulsing beat. The first cover is by a youtuber called classicrocker12392 and his sister. What I like most about this one is the “impromptu harmonizing” and the way that they have so much fun just singing the song. Good guitar, good vocals, all around a pleasant cover of the song. Enjoy:
This next cover’s really really good. It’s by a guy called Tgauer. We don’t actually see him performing the song in the video. I think it’s because he recorded all these parts himself and them mixed them together–that’s as far as I can tell according to his youtube user page that says his label is his macintosh computer (Macs!). Very interesting, very skillful. He does a lot of other covers, too, so watch this vid and then check them out.
Finally, I’ve got one last video for you. This one’s by a guy called 6nikola9. I like this one because he, like tgauer, recorded multiple parts and then mixed them together. However, all the parts are on the electric bass guitar, and we get to see him play all parts at once. An interesting way to do the song, so check it out.
There are many other good covers of these songs out there, and I wish I could post them all, but I can’t/don’t want to right now. But check back and in the future I might do a post dedicated entirely the many many covers of Eleanor Rigby.
Of course, here are the originals:
